Classics Confidential is produced by Jessica Hughes and Elton Barker, who are both Lecturers in the Department of Classical Studies at The Open University.
This week on Classics Confidential Henry Stead meets up with acclaimed poet and playwright Caroline Bird to talk about her radical new version of Euripides’ ‘Trojan Women’. Since recording, the play’s 6 week run has been extended to 7 weeks. So, you can still see it up until the 19th December. The interview was held at King’s College London and in it Henry and Caroline talk about the production, and Caroline’s experience of recasting Euripides’ play in a modern setting. If you cannot make it to London, or if the play is completely sold out, there is a fantastic play text available, on Amazon or direct from the Gate Theatre. The script reads beautifully – and captures a great deal of the caustic energy of Chris Haydon’s staged version.
