The @DH_OU team warmly congratulates our PhD researcher Mia Ridge on her election to the Executive Council of the Association for Computers and the Humanities for 2013-2016.
Mia is the first Digital Humanities doctoral researcher at The Open University, and is also Chair of the Museum Computer Group. She recently organised the very successful UK Museums on the Web 2012 conference. Her Chair’s address reflects on the need to avoid the use of technology for its own sake. The highlights she has collected on her blog show that themes of access, community, sharing, collaboration and learning are central to the digital strategies adopted by museums:
It’s clear that the best strategies are a framework for decision-making rather than a static document, but perhaps they’re also a reminder of why we’re doing it in the first place: to connect audiences with knowledge and collections.
