Are you an aspiring historian or textual scholar? Would you like to learn how to transcribe manuscripts?
The School of Advanced Study, including the Institute of Historical Research and the Institute of English Studies, and in collaboration with the Senate House Library and Exeter Cathedral Library have just released InScribe, the first module in a set of learning materials on palaeography for postgraduates.
From the History SPOT announcement:
This module describes what the course is about, gives an entry point into palaeographical conventions and processes, and gives you the chance to transcribe text from a selection of actual manuscripts (well, digital scans from those manuscripts at least). More modules will follow sometime in the new year offering various pathways on subjects such as codicology, illumination, and diplomatic.
InScribe is currently in test mode and welcomes your feedback. Register for free and start transcribing today!
