Ombra della Sera – Evening Shadow statuette

Emma-Jayne Graham and Jessica Hughes, lecturers in the Department of Classical Studies at The Open University, have just launched a new blog, The Votives Project.

The blog discusses ancient votive offerings – that is, gifts that were given to the Greek and Roman gods. The first two posts discuss “Tap and Pray” systems in modern-day Sri Lanka, and the mysterious “Evening Shadow” Etruscan statuette.

E-J and Jessica say:

We’ve set this site up as a forum for sharing interesting examples of votives and our ideas about them, and as a way of drawing attention to other new projects, books and exhibitions that feature votive offerings. We’ll also be inviting colleagues to write posts, so if you would like to contribute, please don’t hesitate to contact us (our email addresses can be found on our OU webpages).
