Doctoral Students’ Open Day: Digital Scholarship – The British Library

Doctoral Students Open Day Digital Scholarship - The British Library

Friday 23 January 2015, 10:00 – 16:30

The British Library is organising a Digital Scholarships event for first-year PhD students who are new to the Library

Over the last two decades British Library has increasingly become a place full of not just physical objects, but of digital content. These data range from digitised text, sound, visual, and philatelic material, to born-digital collections of personal archives and web content. These data are transforming research, with new tools and computational techniques generating new discoveries and new understanding in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

The BL Doctoral Open Days are a chance for new PhD students to discover the British Library’s research materials. Students will learn about the BL’s digital collections, find out ways of working with them, and meet expert staff and other researchers in the field of digital research. The events are solely for first year PhD students who are new to the Library. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Participants who are new to the British Library are also advised to obtain a free Reader Pass before joining the event.
